My name is Charley and I am a passionate graphic designer with experience in several areas. I have a background in fine art and illustration but at university I fell in love with UX design.
Education
I attended the Commonweal School of Performing Arts until the age of 18.
I then attended the University of Reading to study Graphic Design at a Bachelors degree level. While here I developed skills in a wide range of fields, eventually specialising towards typography and UX design.
Whilst at Reading I took some time out to study at Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul. This is the oldest school in the country and it was here where I studied a variety of subjects such as marketing, business and Korean language.
I am now at the end of my Masters degree with Bath Spa University. During this year I have developed my research skills and approached my work with a more conceptual mindset.
Professional
I have worked for a number of clients during my time as a designer producing things like illustrations, brochures and company brand guidelines. I have done this both freelance and through my universities networks.
I have worked both independently and as part of a team. This allowed me to understand how I work and also learn the value of compromise and respecting other people’s process.
There has also been a need to fund myself through university leading to a range of positions. I am now able to deal with the high stakes of running a retail team on black Friday, and developing relationships with patients through my work as a receptionist.
Personal
My personal interests mainly revolve around books. I typically read 100 books a year and have accounts dedicated to the reviews of these books. I am of the firm belief that collecting books and reading them are two separate hobbies. This has enabled me to gain a deeper appreciation for print finishes and production values and led to a large collection of rare special editions.
I also love to draw. When I am not illustrating for professional projects I am creating fan art for shows and books I love.
I am an all round nerd and really enjoy finding ways to link my work to my passions.
